Travel rule changes – October 2021
Bespoke testing for jobs and industries with travel exemptions
Everyone coming to England from abroad must take one or more tests for coronavirus (COVID-19). Some will also have to quarantine. If you have a job with travel exemptions you must follow a bespoke testing programme. This is mandatory. The bespoke testing programme you follow depends on the sector you work in.

October 24 changes to testing for international arrivals
From 24 October fully vaccinated passengers and most under 18s arriving in England from countries not on the red list can take a cheaper lateral flow test, on or before day 2 of their arrival into the UK. These can be booked from 22 October. The changes will come into effect in time for returns from half term breaks. These cheaper lateral flow tests must be ordered from gov.uk, approved providers is available from 22 October. NHS Test and Trace tests – which can be ordered for free – cannot be used for international travel, the government said.
Passengers who are not fully vaccinated with an authorised vaccine returning from a non-red destination must still take a pre-departure test, a PCR test on day 2 and day 8 test and complete 10 days self-isolation (with the option of Test to Release on day 5).
